For several years I have offered a free Introductory Session aimed at the parents of complete beginners (before they start their driving lessons), who wish to meet and chat with me before their child commences their lessons. More recently, I extended this offer to any brand new learner who wanted to meet me prior to their first lesson.
This free session has never been available to existing learners, who are looking for a new driving instructor (or perhaps have only had lessons with parents or friends previously). However, from 1st February 2015 (for a three month trial period), I am offering the free Introductory Session to existing learners too (except for learners who have already taken or booked a practical driving test).
This session is an opportunity for you to meet me, ask me questions, and learn a little about how I work (my teaching methods and lesson structure) as well as discussing a potential lesson plan. The session is usually held in my car (enabling brand new learners the opportunity to sit in the car and commence with an initial lesson on the Cockpit Drill) but, if you prefer (or if involving a parent), can be held initially in your home. The session also allows me identify your needs, expectations and your style of learning (which is sometimes difficult to fully establish by email, text or phone calls alone).
Please note that the free Introductory Session is without any obligation to purchasing driving lessons (full details of lesson prices can be found in the Lesson Prices section of this website) but is subject to your location, my availability (to accommodate your future lesson plans) and can be arranged in addition to a Taster Session or Assessment Session.
If you are interested in a Free Introductory Meeting, Taster Session or Assessment Session, please either call me today on 0798 011 1234, send me a text message, contact me through WhatsApp or complete the contact form to book a session.
Following an annual review of the structure of my driving lesson prices, and for the third successive year, my standard charges will remain unchanged. The price for my discounted packages (for purchasing a block of 10 lessons in advance) also remains the same but there is now an obligation to commit to a plan of regular lessons (at least a weekly lesson) in order to enjoy the discounted price. While I do not anticipate to increase prices over the next 12 months, I do reserve the right to review and change these prices at any time (although once a learner has registered to learn to drive with me, and taking regular lessons, the price would remain unchanged for at least 12 months).
The cost, format and qualification criteria for my introductory offers (Free Introductory Session, Taster Session and Assessment Session) have been reviewed and revised, as has my mock test service. While these offers may change from time to time, they will continue to be based upon providing the opportunity for potential new clients to meet me and discuss a plan for lessons before committing to a decision on appointing a driving instructor.
Options for qualified drivers (Pass Plus & Refresher) have been reviewed and prices changed to reflect the extra time (and cost) for motorway driving sessions.
Finally, my terms of business have been refreshed, largely to make more clear the approach to charging (or not charging) for lessons that are cancelled at short notice and new pupils will now be asked to read and sign a copy of those terms (in addition to AA Pupil Terms & Conditions) in advance of a first lesson.
To discuss your requirements or to book the first of your AA driving lessons in Nottingham with me, please complete the contact form or call me today on 0798 011 1234 (or send an SMS).
During your driving lessons, I try to explore your learning style in order to help you learn to drive in the most appropriate way for you, because people learn in different ways.
Preparing for your Theory Test is no different. Some people like to read a range of books (including the Highway Code) from cover to cover; some like to learn from a range of interactive media (e.g. using websites, Apps, CD-ROM, DVDs); some like to develop knowledge through discussions in the car, some like to learn through practical experience in driving lessons; some people like to make their own notes and revise and others simply take continuous practice tests and learn from their mistakes.
Prior to booking your Theory Test, I will explore your plans for preparation with you and offer suggestions to fit your learning style (including the use of part of some driving lessons to focus on Hazard Perception) and, once you’ve booked your test, I will discuss progress against your plans during your lessons. There is no right or wrong way to prepare for your Theory Test, as long as you do prepare. Don’t make the mistake (that many people do) of thinking that that multiple choice question based tests are all about common sense and there is need no preparation or what worked for your friends will work for you. In my experience, people who fail their Theory Test have simply not allocated sufficient time to learn. This is possibly because learning the theory of driving is often seen purely as passing a test, but it really is much more than that. The test is simply a way of demonstrating that you have sufficient knowledge and understanding of the rules of the road and ways to drive safely, so that you are equipped to handle a range of different situations when you do pass your practical test (where you demonstrate that you have the skills to acts upon the knowledge you have) and are able to drive on your own. So do remember that, even when you pass your test, you do need to continue to develop and refresh your knowledge and I will use driving lessons to encourage this (especially if you got several questions wrong in the test), through verbal discussions about a range of driving subjects, exploring scenarios with diagrams and pictures or discussing different situations, roads signs and road marking while you are driving.
If you are thinking about taking your Theory Test, have a chat with me first or have a look at some of the supporting web-pages on the links page of my website.
Well done James on passing your test today at Watnall Test Centre with only two minor faults and managing to complete your test before the heavy snow arrived! I’ve been so impressed with how quickly you’ve moved from a complete beginner to an accomplished driver and the result today is so thoroughly deserved. Congratulations and enjoy your birthday weekend!
I just thought I’d mention that I was supplied with a brand new AA Driving School car today (the car is exchanged once a year so that your lessons will always be in a car that is new or nearly new).
The car remains a Ford Fiesta and, as it’s another white one, my current pupils will probably not even notice the difference!
